Welcome – We are the IGNITERs – a faculty-initiated research support group at Kingsborough Community College.

Due to the demands of teaching and service, community college faculty often have little time for research.

This leads to many faculty, especially underrepresented members, creating less scholarship than what we need for promotion and tenure.

To overcome these obstacles, our interdisciplinary group of seven untenured faculty created a research group that supports each other.

Over the last year, our weekly meetings have helped us with: writing and publishing research, documentation of achievements for tenure and promotion, applying for grants, and training undergraduate researchers.

Our work highlights different aspects of our Kingsborough community, such as food/housing insecurity and linguistic discrimination.

Our group can serve as a model for how faculty in higher education can work together to promote underrepresented faculty members’ and students’ career success.
